How to replace a Smart Rack Handle

Introduction

The Panduit cabinet has the option of two security handles the ACF05 and ACF06 used in conjunction with a Panduit PDU controls the access to the PDU as well as providing humidity readings with further options to add additional environmental sensors to the handle.
 

Purpose

The procedure will enable you to set the replacement handle identity to either the hot or cold aisle as required. You will also be shown how to remove and replace the faulty handle and reconnect any additional sensors.

 

Requirements

 Tools/Equipment Required
• T25 Torx screwdriver
• #1 Phillips screwdriver
• #2 Phillips screwdriver
• ACF05/ACF06 Smart Rack Handle

 

Procedure

  1. Set the handles identification to either the hot or cold aisle as required. “ON” for the hot aisle (aka rear door) and “1” for the cold aisle (aka front door)
  2.  
    1. Front Door. Use the T25 torx screwdriver, remove the two screws that hold on the handle cover plate. Retain these screws, they will be needed to reinstall the cover.
    2. Rear Door. Remove the door rod assembly from the handle by only removing the center cam screw using a #2 Phillips screwdriver. Retain the cam screw. It will be used on the new handle.
    3. The two small screws above and below the large cam screw can remain intact to the cam and door rods. This will make reassembly easier when the new handle is installed.
  3. Disconnect the harnesses from the handle. Connectors for the cable have locking mechanisms. Take care to depress the latch before pulling the plug out of the handle.
  4. Remove and discard the screw that holds the cam using a #2 Phillips screwdriver and remove the cam. Retain the cam, it will be reinstalled on the new handle. Pay attention to the orientation of the rotation limiter. This will need to be installed in the same position on the new handle.
  5. Remove and discard the top two and bottom two screws with a #2 Phillips screwdriver. Remove and discard the middle two screws with a #1 Phillips screwdriver. Discard the mounting brackets.
  6. From the box containing the new handle, open the hardware kit.
  7. Insert the new handle into the cutout on the door. Install the new top bracket and two new 12mm flat head screws using a #2 Phillips screwdriver. Ensure that the arrow on the bottom bracket is pointing up and place the bottom bracket over the lock in the handle. Install the 20mm screws into the top holes in the bottom bracket and install the 15mm screws into the bottom holes in the bracket. Torque all screws in this step to 0.4- 0.5 Nm [3.5 - 4.4 in/lbs]
  8. Orientate the rotation limiter in the new handle to match the position it was in the old handle. Place the cam from the old handle over the shaft in the handle. Install the new cam screw into the shaft of the handle. Using a #2 Phillips, torque the cam screw to 4 – 5 Nm [35.4 – 44.2 in/lbs]
  9. Verify that the handle functions properly. If the rotation is incorrect than the rotation limiter was not installed correctly.
