How To Adjust EBP capacity on UPS

Introduction
When an External Battery Pack (EBP) is added to or removed from the UPS system, the battery capacity setting in the NMC Web GUI or within the menu on the LCD screen must be updated manually. The UPS does not auto-detect EBP changes. If this setting is not updated, runtime estimates will be inaccurate and shutdown behavior may not function as expected.Purpose
This article provides the steps to correctly configure the EBP capacity value through the NMC Web GUI after adding, removing, or replacing EBP units on Panduit 1–20kVA UPS systems.Procedure
1. Access the Battery Information Page
- Log in to the NMC Web GUI.
- Click the Home Icon → Control & Manage.
- Select the UPS tab.
- Click the pencil icon next to Battery Information.
1–3kVA VRLA Models
These models have internal batteries rated at 9Ah. Each EBP adds 18Ah. Update the Battery Capacity (Ah) field to match the total capacity:

Click Save.
5-20kVA Models
These models have no internal batteries and ship with 1 EBP by default. Instead of the Ah field, update the Number of Batteries field to match the total EBP count connected to the UPS.
Maximum EBP limits:

Enter the correct EBP count and click Save.
Note: The Number of Batteries and Battery Installation Date fields are used for recordkeeping and do not affect runtime calculations on 1–3kVA models. On 5–20kVA models, the Number of Batteries field does drive runtime calculations.
Post-Configuration
After saving the updated battery configuration, run a Manual Battery Test to verify the system recognizes the full connected capacity:
- In Control & Manage → UPS tab, click the pencil next to UPS Manual Test.
- Select Minimum test type.
- Click Save to execute the test.
- Confirm the test completes successfully and the reported runtime reflects the expected capacity.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Likely Cause | Resolution |

| Runtime estimate is too low after adding EBPs | Battery Capacity (Ah) or Number of Batteries not updated | Update the correct field in Control & Manage → UPS → Battery Information per the procedure above and click Save. |

| Battery test fails after EBP change | EBP breaker is off, battery cable not fully seated, or EBP not grounded | Verify the EBP breaker is ON, battery connectors are clicked in fully, and the ground wire is connected between chassis. For UVPL12H (Lithium), also verify the RJ45 COM cable is connected. For UVP240 (5–10kVA VRLA), verify the BAT_T temperature cable is connected. |
