Introduction

This article explains how to enable Modbus TCP/IP on Essential-to-Power (ES2P) Power Distribution Units (PDUs) and connect to third-party tools.

Purpose

The ES2P PDU supports Modbus TCP/IP protocol and this allows for integration with Building Management Systems (BMS) and Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) systems for monitoring and optimization.

Requirements

Access to ES2P Web Graphical User Interface (GUI) with Administrator Privileges
Modbus TCP/IP port (default is 502) up and not blocked by any firewalls

Known-working Modbus client

Procedure

  1. Log in to the web GUI with administrator privileges.
  2. From the Dashboard, click the gear icon.
  3. Navigate to Modbus
  4. Under ‘Modbus TCP’, tick the ‘Enable’ box.
  5. Click ‘Apply’ for the changes to take effect.
  6. Use a Modbus client (e.g., ModScan, Modbus Poll) to connect to the PDU’s IP.
  7. Query known registers (e.g., voltage, current, outlet state).
  8. Cross-check readings against Web GUI dashboard values.

Troubleshooting

  1. If Modbus fails, confirm it’s enabled in Web GUI and check port 502 firewall rules.
  2. Validate IP connectivity with ping.
  3. If register map is missing, contact Panduit System Support Team at systemsupport@panduit.com
