Introduction

This article explains the procedure to verify the correct connection of the Lithium-Ion External Battery, EBP if indication the Battery is not charging

Purpose

To provide a method to perform tasks to verify the lithium-ion external battery, EBP is firmly connected, breakers are correctly set as well as the dip switch correctly set for the EBP connection to the UPS

Requirements

  • UPS including but not limited to U05N11L
  • External Lithium-ion external battery including but not limited to UVPL12H

Instructions for upgrading each of the above devices are available in the product user guides available on the downloads page of the Panduit Support Downloads webpage.  https://www.panduit.com/en/support/download-center/uninterruptible-power-supply.html

Procedure

  1.    The connecting cable from the EBP to the UPS must be properly seated. You must firmly insert the connector until you feel a positive ‘click’ into place
  2.   If the battery breaker is open (left-hand side of the picture below). It must be switched to “ON” for it to work
    1. Ensure all breakers in the system are turned on. The breakers may contain text denoting which position is ON/OFF.
    2.  Power ON all breakers on the back of each EBP in the system. Note: The
UVP240 EBP units have two breakers on the back of each unit. Both breakers must be powered ON for the EBP to function in the system. All other EBP units have a single      breaker on the back of the unit. This breaker must be powered on for the EBP to function in the system
    3.  Power ON all UPS output then input breakers. Refer to the appropriate UPS User Manual for the location of the input breaker on each UPS unit.
  3.    If you have multiple EBPs, each EBP needs its own ID/address, adjusted via the dip switch
    1.  Ensure all breakers in the system are turned on. The breakers may contain text denoting which position is ON/OFF.
    2.   If dip switch #1 is in the UP position, it indicates to the UPS that no battery pack is present, hence the battery does not communicate with the UPS, it is not recognized as          being present by the UPS, and as a consequence the battery pack does not charge.
    3.  These dip switches do not exist in the VRLA battery packs; however, they serve an important purpose. By using the dip switches and the communication cables, the Lithium       UPS power module can automatically recognize the # of EBPs connected to it.
    4.  In the VRLA line, recall that you must manually enter the number of EBPs – either on the display or the web interface.
