Introduction

Panduit PDUs have been verified to upgrade firmware utilizing ToshibaTM or SandiskTM USB Drives up to 16GB. There have been instances where a verified drive isn’t recognized within the USB Upgrade function

Purpose

This document will display the procedure to remove encryption for the USB Drive. This example is BitLocker only but other encryption tools may behave similarly.

In all cases, the quickest method would be to reformat the USB drive without encryption. This guide details the process if this is not an option.

Requirements

Only ToshibaTM or SandiskTM USB Drives up to 16GB have been verified for firmware upgrades. Other USB Drives may work. This document focus is for BitLocker Encryption

Procedure

•   If a new USB Drive, select Don't encrypt this drive

If utilizing a previously encrypted drive, proceed with the below

•   On your computer with the USB Stick installed, Right click the USB Drive Process begins Decrypting the USB Drive (warns you that this could take a while)
•   Select “Manage BitLocker”
•   “Turn Off BitLocker”

•   Process begins Decrypting the USB Drive (warns you that this could take a while)
•   Example, a 16gb Toshiba USB Drive with only the .fw file took 48 minutes to decrypt

Once complete, follow the USB upgrade procedure within the PDU User Manual to install the upgrade

USB Method:

Note: Verified to work with ToshibaTM or SandiskTM up to 16GB USB Drives. Others
USB drives may work as well.

1. Save the Firmware file (‘*.FW’) to a USB drive.

6. When the update is complete, remove the USB.
7. From the USB Menu, select Quit to exit USB mode. Select Yes to confirm exit.
