How to setup RADIUS authentication for G6 PDU
Introduction
This technote provides step-by-step instructions for configuring RADIUS (Remote Authentication Dial-In User Service) authentication on the Panduit G6 PDU (Power Distribution Unit).
Purpose
By integrating RADIUS authentication, you can enhance security by centralizing user access control for your Panduit G6 PDU, ensuring that only authorized personnel can manage and monitor power distribution. Follow the guide to securely set up RADIUS authentication, streamline user management, and improve overall system integrity.
Requirements
- G6 PDU with firmware version 5.2.5
- FreeRADIUS server version 3.2.3 or 3.2.5 (Standalone mode only)
- Administrator access to G6 PDU Web Graphical User Interface (GUI).
Procedure
Setting up the System for RADIUS Authentication
1. Log in to the G6 PDU web GUI with administrator privileges.
2. On the top left pane, click the admin account name > User Accounts
3. Under ‘RADIUS Configuration’, click the pencil icon.
4. On the dialog box, toggle the enable button and fill in the necessary information regarding the RADIUS server.
5. Save the Configuration.
RADIUS Server Configuration
6. Install FreeRADIUS 3.2.3 or 3.2.5 version or start with a pre-existing installation.
7. Create authorized client configuration statements in /etc/freeradius/3.0/clients.conf that are configured for your security requirements.
8. Create a dictionary at /usr/share/freeradius/dictionary.Panduit containing:
9. Load the dictionary.Panduit by appending the following line to: /etc/freeradius/3.0/dictionary:
$INCLUDE /user/share/freeradius/dictionary.Panduit
10. Add authorized users to /etc/freeradius/3.0/mods-config/files/authorize with the desired role. (Note: the ‘users’ file location may vary based on unique customizations or different package managers.) When specified, the User-Role MUST be the first attribute of the user. Use passwords that are configured for your security requirements.
11. If you started with a clean install of freeradius, you may need to configure these options to enable authentication in /etc/freeradius/3.0/radiusd.conf: (make sure they are configured for your security requirements)
12. Restart the RADIUS server for the configuration changes to take effect.
13. You can now log in to the G6 PDU web GUI using the RADIUS user accounts.
