Introduction

This article explains the procedure whereby a G6 Panduit Intelligent PDU can be connected to a Panduit G3 EPA126 Gateway device.
The Panduit G3 PDUs have gone end of life in 2019. If our user desired to utilize the EPA 126 as a gateway device, as the Panduit G6 PDU becomes a direct replacement for failing G3 PDUs, this is the method of connectivity to the EPA126. This allows existing wiring looms and connected sensors to remain in place. Alternatively, the G6 can be connected directly to the customers network, bypassing the EPA126.

Purpose

To provide a method of direct replacement of a G3 series PDU with a G6 series device, and connect to an EPA 126 Gateway

Requirements

Instructions for upgrading each of the above devices are available in the product user guides available on the downloads page as linked above.
An assumption is made that the purchased G6 replacement PDU is of the same model type as the G3 unit being replaced, i.e. either Monitored Input (MI), Monitored Per Outlet (MPO), Monitored Switched Per Outlet (MSPO) etc.

Procedure

  1. Ensure that the G6 PDU is running firmware version 5.2.5 or higher
  2. Ensure that the EPA126 Gateway is running firmware 2.08.02 or higher
  3. If replacing a failed G3 PDU, detach all devices from that G3 PDU
  4. Remove G3 PDU from the rack
  5. Install G6 PDU into the rack
  6. Connect the MA024 adapter cable to the “PDU In/Serial” port on the G6 iNC
  7. Connect the RJ45 cable between the ‘Power’ port on the EPA126 previously used to connect the G3 PDU, and the port on the MA024 cable adapter. Pictures of each device shown below:

  1. Re-Connect devices to G6 PDU
  2. Power on the G6 PDU
  3. Admin password required on the new G6 is panduit#1

Troubleshooting

Verify G6 PDU firmware v5.2.5 or newer
Verify EPA 126 firmware v2.08.02
Verify G6 password is set to panduit#1
Connect the MA024 directly to the serial jack on the G6 iNC

Verify connectivity by logging into the EPA 126 web interface and clicking on Power and reviewing Status 3-Phase

Verify Voltage, current etc.
If necessary, please contact systemsupport@panduit.com to raise a support case if you have any questions or issues with the procedure.
