UPS Battery maintenance pop-up messages

Introduction

The Battery needs maintenance messages will continue to appear until the end-user properly configures the installation date. These pop-ups occur to remind the user ahead of time that the batteries may soon need to be replaced. These are date configuration based, and not an indication that the batteries are malfunctioning. VRLA battery life usage estimates are approximately 3 years. The UPS tracks 3 years from the user-set installation date compared to the system date to notify the user that battery replacements should be considered.

 

 

 

Purpose

This article outlines the proper method of configuring the date when the battery was installed. The system would then expect a replacement within 3 years from this date.

Advanced warning options: These are set in Days ahead of the 3 years. e.g., If this is set to 365 days (1 year), the system would expect a pop-up reminder after 2 years have passed from the installation date.

Note: On firmware equipped with these pop-ups, they may continue to appear approximately every 30 seconds. If they are cleared, it may send the user back to the main page.

 

VRLA Batteries are set to have a 3-year lifespan from the Installation Date configured by the user.
Li Batteries are set to have an 8-year lifespan from the Installation Date configured by the user.

User Settings:
Replacement Notification: # Days prior to the 3 or 8 year lifespan to trigger the Notification Message.
Replacement Alarm: # Days prior to the 3 or 8 year lifespan to trigger the Replacement Alarm.

These were popups in older versions of FW and can be cleared by changing the Installation Date or configuration settings, but I believe they have been changed to Banner messages in more current FW.
The pop-up does not affect the function of the system in the background. The “Maintenance” message/alarm is purely a reminder.

Example:
Lithium Battery – Installation date set by user to: 1/30/2024
(If system date is current date) – Battery lifespan is calculated to be 1/30/2032 internal to the system. (8 years from install date.)

If Battery Replacement Notification is set to: 365 days – Will trigger notification on 1/30/2031 to give the user a 1-year early reminder to seek a replacement.
If Battery Replacement Alarm is set to: 29 days – Will trigger alarm 1/1/2032 as an escalated warning to seek a replacement.
 

 

 

Procedure

1. From the main page, clear any pop-ups. Verify that the system date (upper right corner) is set to the current date. (This can be configured in the Basic Setup page.) Then press the arrow in the lower right corner.

 

1. Press the Gear Icon to go to the Settings Menu.

 

2. Press the Advanced Setup page.

1. Enter Password and login. (Default is 123456)

 

 

1. From here, since the pop-ups occur approximately every 30 seconds, it is recommended to let the pop-up occur, then clear it and navigate back to the Advanced Setup page. You should still remain logged in and will provide more time for the configuration.

 

2. Navigate back to the Advanced Setup page and press the Battery Setup icon.

 

1. Press the DOWN arrow icon twice to scroll to the Installation Date configuration page.

1. Press the Installation Date text.

 

Enter the last two digits of the year only. (e.g. “24”) Then press OK.

 

 

1. Press the “Save Config” icon.

1. The setting should be saved.

1. At this point the battery installation date setting should be saved, and the user should not experience pop-ups until the system reaches a later date. The user should be free to configure the rest of the system.
