UPS Web UI is showing 0% battery charge remaining
Contents
Introduction
When logging into the Web UI of the UPS, the battery might show 0% charge remaining. This is either due to the battery being not properly seated, or there is a COMM failure with the network module.
Purpose
This procedure will help in the UPS properly showing a valid % charge of the battery. Sometimes, the NMC PCB isn't physically cut perfectly straight, and that little misalignment when the NMC is slid into the intelligent slot pushes the connector out of the bracket that holds it to the UPS chassis. This limits the pin contact on the NMC and can cause the Comm error.Procedure
- Default the NMC back to factory settings by holding down the reset button for 20 seconds.
- Ensure that the NMC firmware is on the latest version.
- Remove the physical NMC and try re-inserting it. If it inserts snugly, it should be ok. If it feels loose, the connector probably got pushed back some and it's not connecting properly.
- Manually default the UPS (using a paperclip, hold reset down for >30 seconds (until rapid flashing of green led) then release. Then user will have to re-log in and reset password.
- Verify that that the system is running in NOR mode by holding the ON button. If the UPS is outputting power to the equipment, then there is no issue here.
- If it is found that the NMC isn't connected properly, (e.g. the connector inside the UPS pushed out of the bracket) - turn off the system entirely for safety and remove the other two screws from the Intelligent Slot bracket
- Pull the connector back out using a needle nose pliers or similar tool, and click it back into place
- Insert the NMC, re-attach the NMC screws to lock it in place and then reattach the bracket screws.
Troubleshooting
1. With the system completely powered off, remove two small screws on sides of NMC. (Circled)
2. Slide out and remove NMC
3. Remove Intelligent Slot bracket screws. (Circled)
4. Slide out Intelligent Slot Bracket.
5. Identify if rear connector is still clipped into the bracket. If it is not, use needle nose pliers, or similar tool to pull out from interior. Align connector with bracket as shown.
6. Snap connector back in to the bracket. Connector should feel secure.
7. Note the position of the guide rails inside the bracket. Align and insert the NMC back in to the bracket.
8. Insert NMC fully so that it fits snugly into the connector. It is suggested to hold both ends as pictured to ensure connection.
9. Replace the small NMC screws to secure the connection. (Circled)
10. Push the bracket assembly back into the Intelligent Slot opening.
Secure the bracket with the two screws. (circled)
