How to perform SNMPWalk for G5 PDU
Introduction
This document outlines the instructions on how to add an Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) Manager on (G5 Power Distribution Unit) web graphical user interface (GUI) and perform SNMPWalk to get the object identifiers (OID).
Purpose
G5 PDU Management Information Base (MIB) file and OIDs can be used to integrate G5 PDU to a third-party Data Centre Infrastructure Management (DCIM) software via SNMP for monitoring and reporting purposes.
Requirements
- Install iReasoning MIB browser and allow through the firewall (Note: Alternatively, firewall can also be disabled first)
- SNMP ports 161 and 162 are enabled and no other applications are using the port
- Panduit G5 PDU MIB file (Download the latest version from the firmware package: https://www.panduit.com/en/support/download-center/power-distribution-units.html)
- Access to Panduit G5 web GUI with administrator privileges
Procedure
Adding the SNMP Manager
1. Log in to the G5 PDU web console with administrator privileges to check the SNMP Management configuration.
Click on the gear icon > SNMP Manager
2. Take note of the SNMP port, and version used.
3. Add your SNMP Manager. Click the pencil icon.
4. On the pop up window, fill in the required details then click 'Save'.
Internet Protocol (IP) Address – IP address of the machine where iReasoning is installed.
Read and Write Community – community string used (can leave as default).
Enable should be toggled.
5. SNMP Manager should be added on the menu after you click ‘Save’.
6. Open the iReasoning software (Run as Administrator preferred).
7. On the ‘Address’ field, input the IP address of your G5 PDU:
8. Click ‘Advanced’ and fill in the necessary fields such as port number, read and write community according to what was configured on your G5 PDU. Then click ‘OK’.
9. Load the G5 PDU MIB file on iReasoning. Click ‘File’ > Load MIBs.
10. Navigate to the location of the ‘Panduit.MIB’ file, choose the Panduit.MIB and then click ‘OK’.
11. After loading the MIB file, you can navigate through the MIB Tree on the left pane to view the details.
12. Before you initiate SNMPWalk, ensure that the OID is at .1.3 so your operation starts at the top of the tree.
13. On the ‘Operations’ field, choose ‘Walk’. Then click ‘Go’ to initiate SNMPWalk.
14. SNMPWalk operation may take a few minutes. You’ll know it’s done when it shows the ‘End of MIB View’
Saving the Operations Result
15. You can save the SNMPWalk result as an (Extensive Markup Language) XML file (can be opened via Excel) as reference. On the rightmost pane, click the diskette icon.
