Introduction

This article outlines the instructions on how to update G5 Power Distribution Unit (PDU) firmware via (Universal Serial Bus) USB method.

Purpose

This is an alternative method to update the firmware of G5 PDU in case access to web Graphical User Interface (GUI) is not available.

Requirements

  • USB flash drive. This procedure is verified to work with Toshiba or Sandisk up to 16GB USB Drives. Others USB drives may work as well.
  • Save the Panduit.FW on the USB drive

Procedure

1.Save the target Firmware, ‘Panduit.FW’ to a USB drive.

2.Insert the USB drive into the USB port of the Intelligent Network Controller (iNC).

3.Enter USB mode on the PDU. Press Select Goto Setup>USB>Yes. Select Yes to confirm entering USB mode.

4.Select F/WUp>Yes to upload the new Firmware.5.The OLED will show the Firmware update progress.

6.When the update is complete, remove the USB.

7.From the USB Menu, select Quit to exit USB mode. Select Yes to confirm exit. The PDU will automatically reboot.

8.To confirm that the Firmware was uploaded successfully, go to Setup>Device>Firmware.

Potential Issues Associated with Simplified Procedure

After initiating the update process, the USB Upgrade progress screen should appear within 15 seconds. If the screen stays dark do the following:

  • Remove the USB drive from the PDU.
  • Power Cycle the PDU.
  • After the PDU powers up, go back to the beginning and rerun all the sub-steps for this PDU.

The firmware update will progress along the bottom of the screen as the Firmware file gets loaded into the PDU. If no progress bar appears within 15 seconds or power is lost while the progress bar is in process, do the following:

  • Remove the USB drive from the PDU.
  • Power Cycle the PDU.
  • After the PDU powers up go back to the beginning and rerun all the sub-steps for this PDU.
  • Once the FW file has been loaded successfully, the display will return to the USB Mode Menu.
