G5 PDU No power to outlets and/or NMC not powered up
Contents
Introduction
Certain scenarios may result in either a PDU not being powered, or not delivering power to attached devices. In this article we will fault find the issue and determine if the problem is related to an internal fault on the PDU or to issues with the power chain.Purpose
This article explains steps to take if a G5 PDU is either not delivering power to its outlets, or if the PDU controller (NMC) is not powering up, i.e. the OLED display on the PDU is blank and there are no other indicators on the NMC.Requirements
Power chain knowledge, i.e. knowledge of how power is being supplied to the PDU in the rack. This may need to involve site facilities teams to provide the above information and be able to test supplies.
Procedure
NMC Controller Not Powering Up
If there is no activity on the Network Controller card in the PDU (no LEDs lit)- Confirm that power is being delivered to the input plug of the PDU? (You may need to involve local facilities teams if you suspect a power delivery problem)
- Reset the controller by holding down the ‘reset’ button for 8 seconds (but less than 20 seconds to avoid a factory reset)
- Reseat the controller unit, by unscrewing the retaining screws, pulling out, then disconnecting and reconnecting the ribbon cable and re-mount the controller in the chassis (this process is described in more detail in the G5 user guide available from Panduit.com here https://www.panduit.com/en/support/download-center/power-distribution-units.html
- Try a known good controller in this PDU, if this does not power up the problem is with PDU Chassis.(NOTE The controllers are hot swappable so will have no impact on the outlet state or the configuration setting of the individual PDU chassis).
- If you do not have a known working controller, please raise a support case with Panduit system support by emailing systemsupport@panduit.com
Controller is powered, but outlets are not powering up
- Are all Circuit Breakers in their ON position?
- Perform a factory reset on the PDU by holding down the ‘reset’ button for >20 seconds. Remove/re-apply power to PDU. NOTE – this will erase all configuration and reset to factory defaults
- If the outlets are still not powering up, please raise a support case with Panduit system support by emailing systemsupport@panduit.com
