Introduction

This article explains the procedure whereby a G5 Panduit Intelligent PDU can be connected to a Panduit G3 EPA126 Gateway device.

The G3 Panduit PDUs are no longer available due to having been end of life in 2019, but if users wish to continue using the EPA126 as a gateway device, then the Panduit G5 PDU can be swapped out as a direct replacement and connected to the EPA126, meaning that existing wiring looms and connected sensors can remain in place. Alternatively, the G5 can be connected directly to the customers network, bypassing the EPA126.

Purpose

To provide a method of direct replacement of a G3 series PDU with a G5 series device.

Requirements

Instructions for upgrading each of the above devices are available in the product user guides available on the downloads page as linked above.
An assumption is made that the purchased G5 replacement PDU is of the same model type as the G3 unit being replaced, i.e. either Monitored Input (MI), Monitored Per Outlet (MPO), Monitored Switched Per Outlet (MSPO) etc.

Procedure

  1. Ensure that the G5 PDU is running firmware version 3.1.1 or higher (see link in Requirements section above for links to firmware file)
  2. Ensure that the EPA126 Gateway is running firmware 2.08.01 or higher (see link in Requirements section above for links to firmware file)
  3. Detach all devices from the G3 PDU that is being replaced
  4. Remove G3 PDU from the rack
  5. Install G5 PDU into the rack
  6. Connect the MA024 adapter cable to the “PDU In/Serial” port on the G5 PDU
  7. Connect the RJ45 cable between the ‘Power’ port on the EPA126 previously used to connect the G3 PDU, and the port on the MA024 cable adapter. Pictures of each device shown below:
  1. Re-Connect devices to G5 PDU
  2. Power on the G5 PDU

Troubleshooting

Ensure that the EPA126 and G5 PDU are communicating by logging into the EPA126 webpage and checking the ‘Power>Status’ page to ensure that the EPA126 is reading values from the G5 PDU (Voltage, current etc.)
